ooh, interesting. That's how we register them, but it takes significant admin wrangling to enforce it - we only issue reg forms in the correct slot by surname, and even so students seem to reserve the right to arrive when it suits them, rather than when it suits us. There are always huge arguments from students on the wrong day who demand the forms anyway, and threaten VC appeals/SRC activism/protests and shutdowns when we hold the line. It would take a certain amount of programming in the backend of our database to enforce the alphabetical split for remote curriculum change, so alas, it's not something I can apply to this immediate situation. I shall keep the idea in mind, though. Intrigued.
