no, I ain't lyin'

I keep vaguely telling people about this, and not being able to remember any of the artists involved, so let's make it real by blogging it. Shane MacGowan, Nick Cave, Chrissie Hynde, Johnny Depp, Mick Jones (on fire extinguisher) and others cover "I Put a Spell on You" in aid of Haiti relief. It's a snarly, growly, bluesy, ballsy rendition which makes the horrible self-congratulatory celebrity pap of "We Are The World" and its noxious ilk look like the flaccid, saccharine syrup they are.

I absolutely loved that.

Glen Matlock still rocks :)

It has... edges. And all the participants rock pretty hard. When you think that the other Haiti relief songs feature Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, it's just sad.

So, I showed this video to some friends on a mainly US-based forum. Cue endless snide comments about Shane McGowan's teeth and zip about the actual single.

I swear, these people DESERVE their boy bands.

Shane MacGowan's teeth are certainly disconcerting, but what the hell has that got to do with the music? Honestly, US tooth-fetishists... Although I'm inclined to think that no-one truly deserves the Jonas Brothers.

Stupendilicious. Thanks for posting. Wonder how long they practiced for? They sound so tight for a group of volunteers just chucked together.
