demonic tots!

No, really. Demonic Tots. (Courtesy of Bowleserised.) Feel the fifties fear.

I am faintly disturbed to notice that, in Friday's poll, absolutely no-one thinks I should run away and join the Navy. What's wrong here? Am I somehow insufficiently nautical? *hurt*

The whole concept of the navy is that you should not chase the men. Now if you had said become a camp follower I would have ticked that.

[identity profile] strawberryfrog.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The navy is full of seamen.
She'd need a pink feather boa to be a camp follower.

[identity profile] extemporanea.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey! May I point out the singular lack of man-chasing in my life for upward of three years? Pshaw! You are clearly suggesting, in a coy and tangental fashion, that I need to get a life. *hurt*.

(Not really, but the continuation of theme just begged to be indulged).

Ah yes!

How could I have forgotten that awful looking plastic food? Worse than the admittedly quite frightening tots.

Say "I'm a nautical girl" five times quickly.

[identity profile] strawberryfrog.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, that was me, just not logged in.

Zimbanana is landlocked, anyway, so it clearly wasn't in your upbringing.

[identity profile] extemporanea.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll have you know my parents had a boat on Kariba! *hurt*

What's with LJ this afternoon, anyway? I've received e-mail notification of precisely two of these comments. Is this widespread, or does LJ just hate me? *hurt*

[identity profile] bumpycat.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
You are sufficiently nautical, but you are *better suited* to being an academic, or possibly an exotic dancer.

Also, press-ups FTL.
(deleted comment)

[identity profile] extemporanea.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Aargh! faster THAN! you're giving me flashbacks to the pile of tests I'm supposed to be marking! You know better than that, w-n. Unless you were just winding me up?

*hurt*...

But I join you in being, as usual, politely confused by bumpy-acronyms.

Clarification

[identity profile] first-fallen.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
FTL = for the lose, I'd guess. Opposite of FTW (for the win).

[identity profile] pinkthulhu.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I should of spotted that too. ;)

[identity profile] extemporanea.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Token "aaargh!", since who am I not to gratify those who gratify me with comments...?

[identity profile] wolverine-nun.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
I beg your pardon. I was typing too fast.
I have deleted the comment. Hope that alleviates the pain.

[identity profile] extemporanea.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for pandering to my grammatical proclivities, but please don't feel the need to delete comments. I am a strong proponent of blog entries in all their terrible but representative glory, a point at which I differ sharply from [livejournal.com profile] wytchfynder, who treats his blog more as a work of art.

[identity profile] bumpycat.livejournal.com 2006-10-24 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! No, not in this case. FTL == for t3h lose == bad. New internet acronyms, overlapping with established acronyms ...

[identity profile] extemporanea.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Dear sir, please, using one side of the paper only and your own words, explain precisely why it is you think I would be more suited to a career as an exotic dancer than as a minion of the miltary's nautical arm?

*in tones of low menace*

[identity profile] bumpycat.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh noes!

Um ... I really really think that anything I say here will just get me into more trouble ...

[identity profile] extemporanea.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
I believe you may be correct :>. Unless you're very creative.

[identity profile] wolverine-nun.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
He clearly just finds you dead sexy. Also, looking sexy in uniform is really his prerogative.

[identity profile] bumpycat.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
Well, speaking as a proud member of Her Majesty's British Army (aka a Percy, Rupert or pongo), I think that being a rock ape (RAF Regt), crab (RAF), bootie (RM), jack or jenny (RN) are inherently poorer choices stemming from a defective and/or slavish personality.

[identity profile] extemporanea.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
< pedant > Interesting. My reading in early 20C British lit, and classics such as Pratchett, suggests that Percy and Rupert are slang terms for a British army officer, not just a soldier. "Jack", on the other hand, tends to refer to the lower ranks only. < /pedant >

[identity profile] bumpycat.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Percy and Rupert are officer slang, while pongo is for all ranks. Jack, however, is for the Navy - Jack Tar.

My first thought was "faster than light". Although admittedly I didn't understand the connection between faster than light and pressups. Unless they're really fast pressups, I guess.

Errm, hello sailor?
