wellington's day
Monday, 14 February 2005 02:00 pmYe gods and little gasping fishes, but it's hot. It just gets worse. I had to brave it today, for a staff meeting, which, while representing something of a moral victory over the department (at least I'm Staff, now), was dull and hot. Campus full of madly orienting students. I feel the Old Academic Curmudgeon in me rising...
Presence of heat-stress headache has made the weekend somewhat unproductive; (I bunked rapier yesterday owing to headache, and the fact that fainting women are not fun for the rapier marshals to have to deal with); work consequently a bit behind. Will damned well defeat that pop culture stuff this week, or perish in the attempt! *sets teeth* I'm also becoming a bit distracted by need to put together oceans of well-informed verbiage on medieval romance for my dear little second-years; heatstress not assisted by today's jaunt around campus carrying 8 large tomes. Join academia, they say. See the world, they say. Daily workouts included.
Oh, and to add to the manifest joys of the heatwaves, Cape Town has been visited by an Alarming Plague of Mosquitos, a respectable subset of which seems to be immune to the insect repellants I'm using. Headache thus exacerbated by not having had a good night's sleep for several days, since being continually dive-bombed is not relaxing. Cape Town in summer, tra la, tra la.
Eeep. That post was basically an extended whinge. Apologies, all. Will undertake to be better, sweeter, brighter individual if someone will import some PROPER WEATHER!
