haves and have-nots

Scorecard for the week:

Have Falkenstein party incarcerated in an underground cell, being prodded by moon-dudes at intervals, with their ride back to Earth nowhere in sight. Score one "heh".

Have mostly written paper on Tolkien, film and fan culture for delivery at the symposium on Sunday; last-minute tinkerings to take place tomorrow, since I always need some distance on these things. Have managed to include Orlando Bloom quote and in-depth discussion of the academic implications of Elven hotness, so score one to me in the academic-baiting department.

Have had mind blown and assumptions re-arranged by a - count them - four hour turnaround on a civic complaint. About a week ago someone nicked the metal grille off the drain outside the house, causing a large square hole of indeterminate and possibly infinite depth into which I have almost fallen several times. Since I have a well-documented ability to disintegrate several limbs at once on terrain no more challenging than a dry, dead level kitchen floor, this was dangerous, and I phoned up the Storm-Water people at about 11.30 this morning and whinged. When I went out to the car at 3.30pm, the grille had been replaced. Score one stunned, and unable to parry.

Have faced fact that Evil Landlord declines to attack the ant-hole in the wall, on the (admittedly valid) grounds that the wall may fall down completely if he looks at it too closely. Score one for the Fascist Ant Army of Anarchic Doom (of whom I have seen no evidence since the Agent Orange attack, but I figure they're biding their time and getting on with the Undermining from Within).

Have managed to completely ignore the pile of marking. Score one for work avoidance.

Have headache. Score one to universal cosmic wossnames, and I'm off to bed.
