doomsaying

I subscribed to New Scientist in February, as a celebration of getting a living wage this year. I only had time to read the first 4 issues or so before my workload increased to the point where it's all I can do to read my bookclub books and several dozen others... so I have a pile waiting until the end of term (4 days and counting) when my workload will decrease to the simple list of Write Thesis, Keep Daughter Alive and Happy.

Anyway, each NS issue has doom laden articles about global warming, oceans rising, etcetera. Did you know that the first islands have been evacuated due to the rising sea level? Somewhere in the Pacific, some tiny, almost unknown islands have had to be evacuated, and there are others in a similar situation. Some estuaries are in grave danger as well. Also, we're running out of drinking water due to non replaceable aquifers being tapped. Mostly in Asia, but the rest of the world is close behind. Read NS and you go around goggle eyed with horror.

Alas, Babylon!
