A few months back I seem to remember getting into a heated debate with [livejournal.com profile] starmadeshadow and the Evil Landlord about the physics of the Firefly universe, specifically the burning question of whether all those planets and moons were within one solar system, or if there was some kind of space-hopping between systems taking place as a background assumption. I incline to the latter view. This article espouses the one-system notion, in such tongue-in-cheek terms that it's simply reinforced my belief in multiple systems and unspoken FTL travel.

Edited to add: Wheee! One of my students just mentioned that the trailer for Serenity is attached to The Skeleton Key in cinemas at the moment. This means that SA may, in fact, get the movie relatively soon after its US release, and I won't have to send jealousy-motivated hit squads after all the lucky UK/US types who get to see it next week. Add this to the fact that Player of Games miraculously arrived in the bookshop yesterday, and the day is looking up.

Being unable to stand the suspense any longer, I eventually simply mailed Ster-Kinekor. I have to say, I'm impressed - my query was answered within an hour. Serenity premieres in South Africa on the 18th November. As I thought, they're delaying it for the Christmas holidays, bastards. So we have to wait a month and a half. On the upside, we get it earlier than Malaysia and Peru.
