yet more linkery
Friday, 11 May 2007 12:21 pmStill feeling like hell, although trying very hard not to whinge about it. Except to my Nice Doctor, who this morning tore her hair faintly at my third visit in two months with exactly the same problem despite frequent punctuation with antibiotics: she prodded me expertly, went "Hmmm" a lot, and took four separate blood samples. These will be sent off for a whole gamut1 of tests, including thyroid, iron levels, blood sugar, Epstein-Barr, and for all I know alien infestation, ingrowing toenails and incipient Conservatism. Also, I appear to be stressing my stomach into irritability - thank you, English department. Also, I have to stick cortizone up my nose while reverently bowed over in what she calls the "Mecca Position." However, she also made a spirited attempt to book me off for the day on the grounds that I was looking pale and green: actual doctor's notes were unnecessary since I don't teach on a Friday, but it makes me feel entitled to ignore the demands of pop culture theory for the rest of the day in order to do quiet, self-indulgent things, possibly including re-reading my Bujold collection. *thumbs nose at bunny*

- Pluto Tells All. Cute bit of writing by John Scalzi, he of Whatever, a peculiarly readable sf blog.
- An interesting view on the US legal system, from Making Light. I have always thought of the US legal system as both insane and unjust, but this is an opposing view suggesting that a lot of the apparent insanity is so much spin. Particularly novel view on the famed McDonalds coffee-burn case.
1 A lovely word which, upon consultation of the dictionary to check I was using it correctly, I discover applies to the medieval musical scale. Who knew?
