Those dinky little calendars are dangerous. I am now seduced by the beautiful unbroken line of blue boxes, and am thus subliminally determined to blog daily at any price. This will undoubtedly fizzle out sometime soon, but in the meantime, what the hell.

It's stinking hot. Cape Town is sultry, calm, and wearing its diaphanous brown smog-band across its brow like a particularly ghostly bandana. I have a Headache, TM. I loathe, loathe, loathe the hot weather, and am profoundly depressed to see that the city and winter have clearly ended their torrid affair and parted, as the expression is, brass rags. The garden is drooping apace. All the students are blossoming into tight little T-shirts in this season's annoying orangey pastels. Blech. On the upside, the grumpy iguana icon (courtesy of Ursula Vernon) is stunningly appropriate. I feel just like that. Small, flumfy, too listless to bite, and distinguished by a lowering black cloud that spells "Grump!" in Indian Smoke-Signal.

It suddenly occurred to me that, since Friday night's Falkenstein session was climaxed by the dastardly descent upon Lilt the Dwarf by a gaggle of Prussian thugs, while he was innocently buying carrots, I really should work out exactly where they have taken him after bundling him into the sinister unmarked carriage. On the other hand, wolverine_nun, who is one of my players, goes into hospital tomorrow for a Caesarian assault upon her unborn spawn Kathleen, who is craning her neck at an odd angle and declining to be born by normal means, so Falkenstein is likely to be in temporary abeyance for a bit. I am, however, getting D&D cravings, and may randomly assemble an alternative group for purposes of hack'n'slash while w_n and husband are getting to grips with parenthood. Or then again, given the heat-stress symptoms, maybe not.

Have finished watching Ultraviolet. Am in infuriated withdrawal, because it's very good and there isn't any more. See icon, iguana, grumpy, for the use of. Conversely, was it just me (again), or was Ghost in the Shell both arbitrary and anti-climactic?

I think I blame you and Order of the Stick about equally, after your enthused babbling about your game... And, I suppose, Victorian social wossnames, which are limiting in some ways.

Ah, so that was a genuine smile at the time and not simply a polite one! I am visibly gratified ;-) Actually, I am so loving being back into gaming. I can't believe I let it slip away for a whole year.

que?

What? You honestly thought I'd need to counterfeit interest in a conversation about Happy Role-playing Games I Have Known? Foolish man! Besides, when am I ever polite to you ? ;>

You are certainly nicer to me than I deserve, my dear.

As the inventor of the word "flumfy" which has travelled around the world, I feel it is encumbent upon me to correct your usage. Or maybe not?
Flumfy - that characteristic of an object to be soft and huggable and generally compressable, possibly giving a whoosh of expelled air as hugged. Invented for description of a particularly, well, flumfy hadbag that my mother had when I was a teenager. Modern down filled sleeping bags are flumfy, particulalrly well stuffed duvets are flumfy, cushions are often flumfy. I hadn't thought of a person being flumfy, but if you're soft, huggable, compressable (this is an important point) and expel a whoosh of air when hugged, then I suppose :)

Someone give this woman a surprise hug!*

* then again, wait until it's raining again, or she may thump you.

I defend utterly my usage of this word. As well as being soft and compressable, flumfy objects have the tendency to settle down in a slumpy, flabby, spineless sort of way when dropped. Like the sulky iguana in my icon, or me under the effects of a heatwave. It is this aspect of a flumfy object to which I refer. Resonance! Implication! Implicit meanings!

Although my character being bundled into a sinister unmarked carriage is worrying, what is more so is that Lilt is still buying carrots. Has he not finished the Dread Mechanical Ornamental Carrot Turner yet ?

Console your sun-drenched self with the thought that you could be working in Battersea. Which any self respecting Batter Pudding Thrower would want to throw as far away as possible, preferably in to the sea !

The Dread Mechanical Ornamental Carrot-Turner has been finished, and patented, and turns out a variety of shapes including ornamental roses, armadillos, and fully-rigged miniature tall ships. The Queen's cook wants one. However, halfway through the invention process an offshoot technology, viz. the Dread Mechanical Red-Hot Carrot Gun, manifested itself, and Lilt is now working happily on that. It pegs a superheated carrot two inches into a wooden door after passing through a disembodied Sidhe lord. (He was being annoying).

Thank heavens, the heatwave was a storm in a teacup. Outside my office cute damp students are scurrying through bucketing rain.
