Unfortunately, Ster Kinekor have no plans currently to release Howl's Moving Castle, although they're going to query it with head office. (Response time: 22 minutes. They're getting even better). In retrospect, in fact Spirited Away was released by Nu Metro, not Ster Kinekor, so they may do this one as well. Have mailed them. Their response time is not as fast as Ster-Kinekor, it's been an hour already and no go!

Edited to add: Ster-Kinekor head office has responded - no plans to put Moving Castle on the line-up, but they may release it later. Which I suspect means next year sometime, if we're lucky. Sigh. Help us, Nu Metro, you are our only hope!

starmadeshadow and I watched Howl's Moving Castle on Saturday. :)

It's very Studio Ghibli. Definitely worth watching, although one reviewer said it wasn't very true to the book (which I haven't read).

I am not jealous at all in any way, oh no, uh-uh. Bastards. I suspect I'll be seeing this one on DVD. Sigh.

[livejournal.com profile] starmadeshadow should have read the book, she's been plugged into my Diana Wynne Jones collection for several years - what did she think?

Even movies that don't get general release do get special screenings, right?

Oh, and I found the American voices good, even if Crhristian "Batman" Bale as Howl was the only big name.

Not necessarily, unless they're art-house movies on limited release on the nouveau circuit. I'm hoping that Nu Metro will do what they did with Spirited Away, which was to release it for about two weeks only, in very few cinemas. Glad it's well dubbed, at any rate. Amazing how badly poor dubbing can stuff up a good movie.

You may have to manufacture an excuse to come and visit us in Claws North to see it. :)
Any London conferences you can attend?

Probably millyuns, but I'm a strange career limbo where I'm not actually eligible for any funding... not a student any more, but not a permanent staff member either. Bleah. Also, "Hopeless fangirling: need to see new Miyazaki movie" is not going to look very good in the "reasons for application" box. Although I suppose creative rephrasing may work: "Acquisition of primary texts for research into comparative narratological structures of Western and Eastern non-realist cultures." Maybe I should give it a try...

"Acquisitions of primary texts for..." etc: file under "reasons I miss academia".
