There have just been several modest but well-stated claps of thunder, signifying that Cape Town is doing its Mediterranean best to gratify me with something that's at least a pale shade of a highveld thunderstorm. I love the Cape climate, rain, wind and all, but I do miss thunderstorms. Oh, and here comes the rain. Thunderstorms have bigger, fatter raindrops than any other kind of precipitation. Ooh, that was lightning. Thunderstorms, they make me buzz.
Vaguely related to yesterday's post, Henry Jenkins, Cultural Guru, has been discussing Superman. He makes a good point about Superman's basically vanilla flavour, meaning that he's only really interesting in counterpoint to a serious villain or another superhero with more personality, which I suppose is why Bryan Singer felt the need to inflict him with relationship angst. It's not an accident that my most enduring memories of the Superman movies with Christopher Reeve are of the third one, where he Goes Bad, TM.
Lufthansa, the bastards, have rescheduled my mother's flight to arrive at 5am tomorrow. They clearly intend their airline for aliens, zombies and Germans. I shall now prepare for the horror of an early wake by feeding my Alias addiction for a couple of hours (halfway through the second season, SD-6 has fallen and Sidney has finally got it on with Vaughan) before heading off to be fed excellent Thai food by jo&stv. It's a hard life.
