There have just been several modest but well-stated claps of thunder, signifying that Cape Town is doing its Mediterranean best to gratify me with something that's at least a pale shade of a highveld thunderstorm. I love the Cape climate, rain, wind and all, but I do miss thunderstorms. Oh, and here comes the rain. Thunderstorms have bigger, fatter raindrops than any other kind of precipitation. Ooh, that was lightning. Thunderstorms, they make me buzz.

Vaguely related to yesterday's post, Henry Jenkins, Cultural Guru, has been discussing Superman. He makes a good point about Superman's basically vanilla flavour, meaning that he's only really interesting in counterpoint to a serious villain or another superhero with more personality, which I suppose is why Bryan Singer felt the need to inflict him with relationship angst. It's not an accident that my most enduring memories of the Superman movies with Christopher Reeve are of the third one, where he Goes Bad, TM.

Lufthansa, the bastards, have rescheduled my mother's flight to arrive at 5am tomorrow. They clearly intend their airline for aliens, zombies and Germans. I shall now prepare for the horror of an early wake by feeding my Alias addiction for a couple of hours (halfway through the second season, SD-6 has fallen and Sidney has finally got it on with Vaughan) before heading off to be fed excellent Thai food by jo&stv. It's a hard life.

I feel for you having to get up that early to fetch someone from the airport but I feel more for your mother who may find that our country is not awake at that time and so getting through passport control could take some time.

[btw you've been friended]

Actually, Cape Town International this very early morning had the perfect balance between functional wide-awakeness and lots of parking; I arrived at 5.45am and my mother had just drifted uneventfully through Customs and out. If they were all asleep it's probably just as well, she was carrying a bunch of new DVDs for me and the duty could have been ugly :>.

Friending duly noted, welcome to the Good Ship Random Wittering. I like your icon.

But you repeat yourself.

Are you slagging off my Evil Landlord, by any chance? He's always German, quite often alien and only occasionally a zombie.

No you don't! You whinge all through summer! You're just currently in a happy damp haze, and have forgotten what summer does to you. Now me, I love summer and whinge all through winter.
