battering fish
Monday, 7 August 2006 09:47 pmIt's not a good week for kitties. Golux, she of the cute pink nose...

... has started to develop skin cancer on said cute pink nose, owing to the untamed ferocity of the globally-warmed African sun. I consequently have to take her once a week to the vet to have her nose frozen, a procedure which apparently isolates and removes pre-cancerous cells. She hates it, me and the vet, and yowls unceasingly from the moment we box her to the moment she gets home. She also gets enormously groggy from the sedatives, and falls over a lot. Her little pink nose is now a big red nose, like a clown. Or a drunk. I feel incredibly guilty.
As if to compound above-mentioned guilt, last night I accidentally kicked over the oil-heater onto Fish, who was lying blissed out next to it. It's heavy, and was very hot. She seems unharmed, much less char-grilled in neat bars, but suffered a major fright and dignity loss, and sulked under the bed for an hour or so. I feel even more incredibly guilty.
Actually, I really love my cats. Really.

Date: Monday, 7 August 2006 08:36 pm (UTC)On the noseless Golux front, don't feel bad. I did _everything_ I could think of to protect Mischief's ears from the sun, including that thick zinc stuff cricketers use. It didn't work. Although, when I used the sticky spray-on Petscreen, she used to roll in the sand to get it off, resulting in muddy ears. Maybe mud is an old feline remedy passed on from queen to kitten. You can get Golux a fake golden nose! Tycho Golux, hee hee. I often consider getting Mischief fake ears, maybe little horns or Pikachu ears. Hmmm, there's an idea.
