The unexpected hazards of teaching Disney to punch-drunk third-years nearing the end of their degree: discussion of Beauty and the Beast is occasionally interrupted by outbreaks of song from the back row. ("Tale as old as time", "This provincial life", and, for some reason, "Every sperm is sacred," which was actually and bizarrely not entirely unconnected to the serious, academic discussion we were having at the time.) I am now thoroughly earwormed by catchy and nauseating Disney ditties, an irritation which I callously and deliberately hope to pass on to readers by blogging about it. Heh.

Random linkage, just because: for some reason I rather like the digital art here. Sort of science fictionoid and frequently disturbing.

Apparently we're experiencing Web 2.0, which is just like Web 1.0 only more ironic. Me, I blame postmodernism.

Today is my sister's birthday. Happy birthday, sis! It's also exactly a week until my term's teaching ends, holding out hope that I may actually survive two more days of 6am wake-up in order to shamble through first period imparting science fiction to similarly unawake zombies. Also, this afternoon is the faculty meeting which decides whether I am teaching next year, or undergoing involuntary career change, continental relocation or similar upheaval. I attempted to buffer the shock (it's going to be a shock regardless of what they decide) by splashing out yesterday on a new Belle & Sebastian and shiny curvy earrings from the new Naga stock, but I may nonetheless be forced to spend this evening becoming very, very drunk.

Good Luck

Oh, the academic life, oh, the uncertainties. It's a magic carpet ride, to be sure. A tale as old as time. There's no logic to it, it's a puzzlement. But you'll be okay; just whistle a happy tune...

...god this really isn't working, even with a Rodgers & Hammerstein segue. Sorry. I need more sleep.

Um. Good luck and stuff.

Pas du tout on the "really isn't working", I rather enjoyed it. Besides, if I'm going to head a post with "Bricolage!", I have only myself to blame, non?

(I have no idea where the random bits of French came from in the above. Makes no sense.)

Thanks for luck, and I share your pain on the lack-of-sleep front, I am definitely in Shuffling Zombie Mode this morning.

Nope. If any tune is in danger of getting stuck it's Every Sperm Is Sacred. But, see, that's because not a lot of your readers have forced themselves to watch as much Disney as you have. I simply don't know the songs.

Golly, this afternoon is going to be tension ridden for you. Poor you. I shall hold thumbs and cross toes and stuff. I'll get P to explain to me very carefully what of his wine collection we're allowed to drink tonight.
