*shakes tiny fist in impotent rage*

I have sound back. Why do I have sound back? Because I accidentally clicked on the toolbar and brought up the volume control, which has its little "Mute" box checked. So I unchecked it and now I have sound. QED. So much for three weeks of patient, totally futile, multiple driver re-installs. And don't ask me how the mute box got itself checked. I've never seen that volume control before, I didn't do nuffin. Which is not to say the Evil Landlord isn't laughing at me for being a nit, because he is. I am reluctantly forced to conclude he may have a point.

I shall comfort myself by (a) catching up on Heroes and (b) spreading the horror that is tinsel-encrusted snowman earrings.

p.s. still snuffling like an over-enthusiastic puppy. Snuffling, icky-feeling, concrete-headed puppy.

Bunny Threat Level: holding. Feeling too crap to do any work. Besides, today I need to galvanise the EL into fixing blinds so I can move back into my room.

They caught my attention in the shop when they drawled 'Yo, yo, yo, baby'.

They are fantastic - I'm humming "Good King Wensleslas" just looking at them. In the unlikely event that they don't live up to christmas magnificence and function as true motivation, I can definitely lay my hands on a pair that look very similar - but also have tiny flashing LEDs .

You, madam, are basically twisted. Particularly on the subject of Christmas. And me in a weakened state! *swoons, collapses on fainting couch with hand to forehead*

Oh yes, I've seen the mute option check themselves before.

Thank you, this makes me feel better. Although slightly inclined to scream, unreasonably and with the true tetchiness only the lurgi can give, "Why the hell didn't you say so three weeks ago?!?" I should have thought of it myself, the drivers were self-evidently not the problem. Sigh.

Hindsight is 20/20. It didn't come to mind as relevant.

No more it should. In a well-arranged universe we'd all have small mental time machines for moments like these.

I recently had to phone our laptop provider because the touchpad on a two-week old laptop had died. A weary sounding techie said 'Try pushing the following combination of keys. Does it work now?' And yup, it worked.

And they say that computers are science! pshaw. Arcane black arts, I tell you. And quantum.

the mute thing happened to me once when i was talking on skype. i thought my hardware had spontaneously broken... my theory is that sometimes computers just want some peace and quiet.

condolences with the snuffles. i have discovered something that shifts the concrete, its called acc200.

are you coming to the braai on saturday? please say yes! (L has the latest Heroes, but we are in the middle of another hiatus, the next episode screens on 23 April.)

Stand firm dear, there will be no cocktails for her without Torchwood!

OMG, I had completely forgotten that I'd promised you guys Torchwood. I grovel. Next time, mail me and remind me forcibly, I am well known for having a memory like Swiss cheese.

Yes, I am coming to the braai on Saturday, I just hadn't got around to RSVPing owing to extremes of lurgi. And I'll bring Torchwood. Apologetically.

Honestly, Torchwood isn't that great. Dont bother. It will just spoil Captain Jack's appearances in the next season of Dr Who. :)

On a complete tangent, you probably know that Buffy is arising again in the form of a new comic by Joss Whedon? Is this milking the cow too much or cleverly continuing a popular series? :-)

Actually, I find Torchwood a strange combination of curiously watchable while not actually being that good. Rather like Smallville, in fact. Although with considerably more dodgy and largely unnecessary sex.

Tchah, sir! You underrate my fangirlishness. I do indeed know about Buffy Season 8 in comic form, and in fact have blogged about it, albeit tangentially, here (http://extemporanea.livejournal.com/122080.html). I dunno. I wasn't impressed with the rather flimsy Firefly comics, but maybe these will have more substance?
