push me, pull you
Monday, 29 October 2007 12:08 pmDarned cosmic wossnames: pat you on the head and yank the rug out from under your feet simultaneously. Hate that. I didn't get the Stellenbosch post. I didn't even make the interviews on the Stellenbosch post. Am depressed, except three separate enthused second-year students just bounced into my office and were vociferously unpleased that I'm not teaching next year. They are going to go and make their sense of deprivation and outrage known to the dept. I confidently expect this to achieve absolutely nothing in practical terms, but it's nice to feel needed. Also, the aforementioned dept. just randomly allocated me a hefty chunk of additional payment for all the honours supervising I've been doing, which was completely and utterly unexpected, and will allow me to pay off about half of my credit card in one fell swoop, thus permitting my mother to sleep at night. (Hi, Mum!). Am thus feeling a bit bemused. Darned cosmic wossnames.
In other news, oooh!
Comet!. It's just madly brightened for no discernible reason. It's pretty.

Will attempt to see it some evening, supposing (a) it's visible in the southern hemisphere (apparently it is), (b) the madly unseasonal cold front cloud cover ever lifts, and (b) I can find someone to point out Perseus. I have a very, very vivid memory of seeing Halley's Comet when I was still at school - a sort of distant, serene beauty with its long, faint, ethereal tail. I love comets.
Also, just because, photoshopped cute evil. I want the dragon. (Second pic down, last I looked).
Last Night I Dreamed: a very weird combination SCA event and university gathering of some sort in an extremely crowded and goth-decorated dorm room, in which I was frantically trying to find computers for my students to finish their essays. Later I was involved in an assault on corporate headquarters at the top of a skyscraper, smashing in through the plate glass only to find
