we're all mad here

Today is mad. I have a mad deadline for tomorrow. Mad students keep trying to ask me mad questions while the phone madly rings. I'm under the desk with straws in my hair. It is clearly the time for mad linkery.

  1. Hee. Ursula Vernon is drawing phalloi. (Those are the weird little classical winged penises, so don't click if your boss is watching over your shoulder). Including ridiculously cute Valentine's cards. I do enjoy the insanely lateral way her mind works.

  2. Also via Ursula: dog meets sweet potato. Our cats used to be mad for the cooked pulp and seeds from inside a gem squash, but they weren't quite as amusingly pathological about it.

  3. At the game on Tuesday night, someone incautiously mentioned "Safety Dance", causing me to say "Men Without Hats" as a sort of deeply conditioned reflex, given that I haven't either heard the song or thought about it for about eighteen years, i.e. the entire lifespan of the teenager that I was when I listened to it. Then I spent a happy hour last night watching 80s hits on YouTube. Somewhere in my future is a possibly expensive rendezvous with a bunch of 80s mix CDs, I don't have any of this music any more. The Thompson Twins hit I was unable to remember at the time was, of course, "Hold Me Now." I love his voice. On the other hand, I dug up Cutting Crew, and OMG but that's a seriously insane mullet alert.

80s music, I has it. If you'd like some, let me know where to post it.

Why, thank you! But I'll go and dig around for mix CDs first - I'm not entirely sure the 80s should be encouraged, but unless it's unavoidable I'm generally in favour of the artists getting some money from me.

Incidentally - love your icon!

Heh. I spend much of last evening listening to Echo and the Bunnymen.
Also, watching Superman I, there's so much movie before Christopher Reeve arrives.

Christopher Reeve! Gosh, I've just remembered that I bought the boxed set of the first three Superman movies about a month ago, and haven't yet got around to watching it. There goes the weekend, then... in cheese!

watched the first one on Friday night. Very dated, clunky and curiously endearing. You're right, huge amounts of pre-film, with all that trippy 60s-feeling sf stuff - white glittery costumes. My DVD version has about 8 minutes of extra footage cut back in, including extended Council stuff. Extremely entertaining and rather sweet.

Mixes, I has them.

I have a double-cd mix called Relax! It is very cool. You should rippit. Also, I have some HL and the News. Nothing like "stuck with you" for cheese :P.

Gosh, yes, I'd forgotten you had all that 80s stuff - I seem to remember them turning up pleasingly at a party lo these many moons ago.

I'm going to follow my usual Lawful Good tendencies and buy a couple of mix CDs, but I may well come and raid your collection for particular songs I haven't been able to find elsewhere.
