notes on the recruitment process
Wednesday, 3 December 2008 02:59 pmWading through CVs for a job we've advertised. No selection process in which I have had a hand will ever employ anyone who:
1) promises to "develop the implementation model";
2) writes an application letter with the caps lock on;
3) does these completely obscene things to the innocent apostrophe.
A girl has her code.

I am amused that part of my job is to correct people’s grammar and spelling—me with my very loose grasp on the mysteries of the English language! Still some of them are so poor that even I manage to generate some inner punctuation rage!

Date: Thursday, 4 December 2008 08:47 am (UTC)Sounds as if the 'standard' of English as she should be Written in SA has gone the same Dismal way as in the Mother Country. Too much exposure to American TV series, txting & not enough reading of Proper Literature methinks.
Not to mention a General Abandonment of any teaching of Rules of Grammar (for all they are more Observed in their Breach than their Keeping) for the past thirty to forty years.
