Nope, still no brain. This is probably (a) because it's so hot that I have a thundering headache and my chocolate stash has melted again, (b) because of cities. Bring me a cottage in the country, stat. And a new chocolate stash.

Other than that, I'm fundamentally dull.

Cities

That was a brilliant article, and ties in weirdly well with what I was just writing about Joseph Priestley and C18th coffeehouses, AND with the book I'm reading at the moment, which is Jane Jacobs's 'The Death and Life of Great American Cities', AND with this article (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/11/nyregion/thecity/11blog.html?_r=2&sq=outside.in&st=cse&scp=2&pagewanted=all) in the New York Times I was reading earlier today. What strange coincidences.

I have a cottage in the country (well, near enough in the country) if you fancy coming to stay!

(It's me, Patroclus, by the way. I think I commented the other day too and forgot to say who I was.)

Yes, definite synchronicity there: those coffeehouse creative types were clearly also madly stressed and attention-deficit.

I live in Cape Town, which is a beautiful place and as far as one can get from being in a city while actually being in a city, but I still envy you your Cornwall cottage.
