Wheee! I'd forgotten that the new couches were being delivered this morning, causing me to arrive home after a bloody annoying day to the sudden happiness of furniture acquisition and the contemplation of a future of comfort reading in the best sense of the word, unmarred by a sore butt. They're two- and three-seater versions of Ilana from here... big, and floofy, like the mattresses in the marshes of Squornshellous Zeta, and they make the living room look smaller and infinitely more cuddly. The old couches - the Evil Landlord's horrible beige sleeper couch, and my self-renovated two-seater of Granite Butt Creation +10, whose basic inutility was unredeemed even by my mother's l33t upholstering job - were put outside the front gate, to vanish within approximately four and a half minutes, precariously tied to the top of someone's car. Recyle Economy R Us. I approve.

The cats are variously oblivious to, intrigued by and afraid of the new acquisitions. I'd say it'll take about another forty-five minutes before the goldfish attention span kicks in and they start sharpening their claws on the lovely new surfaces. Feliway, I say meaningfully to myself. Feliway.

I'm going to pick a book from the Shelf Of Unread Reproach, and curl up on a new sofa for a while. Well, damn.

Let's hear it for the joy's of good furniture! The 3-seater Ilana look's practically idential to our very comfy blue sofa, which we got courtesy of pinKuthlu and BigHair. Recycling Stuff to and from friends is good too, especially since we lack your freelance recyclers - we had to pay someone real money to take away old computers, imagine...

I wouldn't inflict our old furniture on anyone I liked, they were truly horrible after a ten-year stint in our high-traffic living room. Also, the kitty claw damage was considerable. We may have to fence the new ones...

*reminisce*
I spent a night or two on that sleeper couch. I wish it well.

You write so well.
Our paper is going to rock.

I have the Gil McNeil sequel at work with me. Since you asked for it a few weeks ago, does it qualify for a place on your Shelf of Unread Reproach, or should I quietly take it back home with me?

Um, I'm afraid my immediate response is to go "Who was Gil McNeil, again...?" Oh, wait! The majesty of Google reveals that she was Divas Don't Knit. I'd love the sequel, I need fluffy reading at the moment, and she's better than Mercedes Lackey.

I am amazed at your fond memories of that sleeper couch. By all the rules those should have been really uncomfortable nights. The new ones are much more comfy.

Um, I wouldn't say fond memories really, more port-in-a-storm. Your home has provided me with a port more than once, so perhaps the couch is simply imbued with my general feelings of warmth and friendship. Long may it hide cat toys from future owners.

They have little frills round the bottom, absolutely perfect for the concealing of cat toys! We shall have to work hard at speedily imbuing the requisite warmth/friendship vibes. Possibly sofa hugging sessions, or something.
